Hi, I'm

Atanas Oreshkov.

Software Engineer & Architect

Sofia, Bulgaria · UTC+2 · EU citizen — no work permit required

I build and integrate mission-critical backend systems — 29 years of them, 27 in financial services, on a commercial-finance platform used by 10,000+ people in 40+ countries. My work runs from the Oracle Pro*C and SQL core of that platform to the Spring Boot services now replacing its legacy modules. Alongside it I ship Kotlin: a plugin published on the JetBrains Marketplace, two MCP servers, and a Kotlin Multiplatform reference app that runs on Android, iOS and Desktop from one codebase.

Full CV — employment history, education, references — on request. It is deliberately not published: this page carries everything needed to screen me.

Experience

29 years in enterprise software, 27 of them in financial services — long enough on one product line to own it end to end, from the Pro*C transaction core to the Spring Boot services replacing its legacy front end.

  1. Software Architect

iMX — an event-driven commercial-finance platform (factoring, leasing, debt collection, commercial loans) used by 10,000+ users across 40+ countries.

    • Refactor legacy Oracle Forms modules into Java / Spring Boot / Spring JDBC services with REST and OpenAPI contracts — clean layered architecture and dependency injection — as part of the platform's modernisation programme.
    • Continue core engineering in Oracle Pro*C embedded SQL and C, and optimise Oracle data access for high-volume financial processing and case-management workloads.
    • Built a Docker proof-of-concept containerising the platform's Pro*C modules, demonstrating a path to container-based builds and deployment.
  2. Senior Developer → Team Leader

    1999 – 2017

    • Core engineer on the same platform's Pro*C / C and PL/SQL engine — the transaction core the product still runs on today.
    • Led a development team (2004–2013): technical direction, code-review standards and mentoring, before returning to a hands-on senior and architecture focus.
  3. Earlier: Progress 4GL Developer

    1997 – 1999

Business logic and data models for accounting software — the start of a career-long specialisation in database-driven financial systems.

M.Sc. Informatics, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. Bulgarian (native), English (professional, daily use), French (working proficiency).

Professional Expertise

Spring Boot & Java

Enterprise backend development with Spring Boot, Spring Web, and Spring JDBC. Building scalable REST APIs with OpenAPI documentation, dependency injection patterns, and maintainable JVM-based systems for complex enterprise applications.

Enterprise SQL & Data Integration

SQL expertise applied to enterprise application development. Working with relational databases, query optimization, and data integration in complex system architectures using both modern and legacy platforms.

Oracle Pro*C/C++

Legacy and modern systems integration. Deep experience with embedded SQL, Pro*C development, and connecting C/C++ applications to Oracle databases at the system level.

Currently Building With

Kotlin & Kotlin Multiplatform

Shipped a JetBrains Marketplace plugin that generates production-ready KMP projects, and two MCP servers in Kotlin — one built on the Kotlin Analysis API (K2), one on Kotlin Multiplatform.

Compose Multiplatform & Android

Built a Compose Multiplatform app running on Android, iOS and Desktop from a single codebase — Room 3, Navigation 3, Koin, coroutines, and a test suite spanning unit, ViewModel and UI tests.

Projects

Open source I'm actively building. Each card opens its repository on GitHub; where a project has a longer write-up, the card links to it.

KMP Project Wizard

IntelliJ SDK Kotlin 2.4 Gradle Tooling K2 Ready

Key Highlights:

  • Automated Architecture: Generates a strictly layered Domain/Data/UI/Navigation structure.
  • Modern Stack Injection: Pre-configures Room 3, Navigation 3, and Koin Annotations out of the box.
  • Build Optimization: Implements Gradle Convention Plugins and Version Catalogs for clean build logic.
  • Marketplace Ready: Fully compliant with latest JetBrains standards and Kotlin K2 mode.

Kotlin 2.4 Analysis API (K2) KMP-aware

Key Highlights:

  • Resolved signatures: Declarations are analyzed with the same Analysis API that powers the Kotlin IDE — real type-resolved signatures, not regex guesses.
  • KMP-aware: Per-target sources jars are resolved via .module Gradle metadata, and every symbol is tagged with its targets.
  • KDoc as data: Summaries, descriptions, and tags are extracted per declaration — not whole HTML pages.
  • Offline & drift-free: Everything is cached on disk keyed by group/artifact/version — the exact version you depend on, no re-downloads after the first fetch.
